The pull of nostalgia

Grateful Monday: Today I’m grateful for being back in NZ and able to spend a fleeting moment at my heaven on earth, Whangapoua, a tiny remote surf beach in Coromandel NZ where I grew up.

So many of my wonderful childhood memories are there staying in our little ramshackle kiwi bach on this beautiful golden sand remote beach – staying in the water until my skin wrinkled and the sun set over the pine forest clad hills, getting up at the crack of dawn and fishing with my father, toasting mashmallows over a bonfire and family Christmas lunches celebrated with a big bbq lunch on our lawn with the waves crashing against the shore and lots of games played on the beach. Most importantly though, it’s where I learnt to surf for the first time after watching my dad and brother doing it for years so in effect was the true birthplace of Surf Haven igniting the spark towards following this dream. After a very exciting and busy few years, I’m grateful for the brief touchdown to reflect on the journey travelled and to reconnect with this special place.
