Christmas Cocktails – The Healthy Way

Ok—so cocktails aren’t exactly health food. But every once in a while, they can be oh-so-good for your mental health. And as it’s the season to indulge, we thought we would share our tips. Alcohol is fairly calorie-dense, so the slimming secret is in the mixers. Check out our top 3 cocktails:

At Escape Haven we love fresh young coconuts because they are good and good for you. The coconut water keeps you hydrated thanks to its nutritional goldmine of electrolyte-charged and potassium-packed properties. You can’t go wrong with young coconut’s no cholesterol and no preservatives content either, and its slightly sweet flavour will help you beat those sugar cravings!

Coco Loves Rum

Ingredients (2 Cocktails):

– 2 measures white rum
– 1 fresh Young Coconut
– Ice
– Pineapple

Bonus tip: Young coconuts are the perfect cure for hangover because they contain electrolytes and anti-oxidants that prevent and repair damage to the body. So save some for the following morning!

Method: Combine the rum and coconut water in a cocktail shaker. For a frothier consistence, carve out the flesh and mix with the coconut water in a blender to create coconut milk. Serve in a tall glass, or in a empty coconut. Garnish with a slice of pineapple. Enjoy!

A jug of Pimms is the perfect thirst quencher in the sunshine, and this low-sugar version will make it the best option for perfect summer pins! Make sure to add heaps of nutritious and flavoursome fruit and veggies to your punch for a vitamin boost. Squeeze in some lemon for an alkalising twist!



Escape Haven’s Perfect Pimms

– 2 measures Pimms No 1
– 3/4 measures Cointreau
– 3/4 freshly squeezed lime juice
– 250 ml soda water (note, not lemonade!)
– Strawberries, orange, lime, Lebanese cucumber slices, mint.
– Ice

Method: Combine the Pimms and Cointreau in a cocktail shaker, shake well and pour into a jug. Fill with fruit, and top up with soda water and ice. Enjoy!

Pomegranates are our new favourite ingredient at Escape Haven. This amazing little fruit is off the charts when it comes to anti-oxidants, and not only boosts your immune system but works wonders for all skin types as it hydrates dry skin and prevents the outbreak of pimples.



Pomegranate Martini

Ingredients (2 cocktails):
– 2 measures of vodka
– 2 measures of grand martini
– 2 measures of pomegranate juice
– 1 ounce of lemon or lime juice
– Splash of tonic water
– Lebanese cucumber and mint

Method: Combine the ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake, stir and serve in a chilled martini glass and garnish with a slice of cucumber and mint.
