Recipe | Easy Ayurvedic Cauliflower Fried-Rice (Paleo, Gluten-Free, Vegan)

Cauliflower Rice is a delicious dish that has recently gained popularity in the health and wellness world. Instead of using regular rice in this dish, the rice is substituted for cauliflower. This makes the recipe low in carbohydrates, grain-free and paleo-friendly. While it may sound like a strange substitution, it works well! The cauliflower also holds onto all of the delicious flavours and is a great way to get some extra vegetables into your diet at the same time!

Ayurveda foods all primarily focus on warming foods designed to create inner fire and boost digestion. Cooking cauliflower also makes it easier to digest, as the heat breaks down the fibrous cell walls that cause bloating issues in Vatas and Kaphas. While each dosha has different requirements when it comes to diet, this dish is Tri-Doshic, meaning Vatas, Pittas and Kaphas can all benefit from it. Pitta types may like to reduce the garlic, while Kapha types may like to make the dish oil free.

This recipe serves 4-6 and will also keep 2-3 days in the fridge and can be reheated and enjoyed again. It is a great meal to take to work and is also a healthy family-friendly dish that children and adults alike can enjoy.


  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 head of cauliflower rice (see below)
  • 2 green onions, diced
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ cup cooked edamame
  • 2 cups your choice chopped vegetables: broccoli, carrots, snow peas, bamboo shoots
  • 2 tablespoons tamari


Remove the leaves of the cauliflower and cut the base of the root then chop cauliflower into chunks.

Pulse the cauliflower in a food processor until fine so it resembles the texture of rice, OR grate the cauliflower with a regular cheese grater. Stir well to make sure there are no remaining chunks. It should be light and airy, looking similar to rice.

Bring the sesame oil to medium-high heat in a large pan.

Add garlic and stir for 1-2 minutes.

Add the cauliflower rice, green onion, spices, edamame, veggies and tamari.

Cook, stirring frequently for about 10 minutes until the cauliflower is tender.

Serve immediately.
