How Wellness Rituals Can Change Your Life
What do you think of when you think of rituals? Maybe you think of something a little serious or spiritual or some kind of rite of passage?
But what if making your morning cuppa could be a wellness ritual?
A wellness ritual can be anything that you add meaning to by slowing down, practicing the task mindfully and being truly present. Tucking your little one into bed at night and reading a book could be a night time ritual. Brewing that morning coffee or whipping up a yummy smoothie could be a ritual. Going out on a planned date with a loved one or friend could be a lovely ritual. Morning papers, perfect eggs, fresh oj- another ritual.
It’s so common in our fast-paced world to crawl into bed each night and wonder where on earth the hours of the day vanished to. Days, weeks, months roll into one another and that ‘Groundhog Day’ existence sneaks upon us.
One of the most effective ways to slow down and really live each moment fully is to practice awareness and mindfulness around the daily actions that we make. Instead of operating on autopilot and seeing just how many things you can multitask, slowing down allows us the gift of turning average mundane moments into something special and sacred.
In essence, creating rituals is a powerful way to transform our daily actions into meaningful experiences.
This doesn’t need to take up all that much extra time, it’s more about the intention than trying to find extra hours in your day.
On our Bali retreat, guests often share how luxuriously long the days feel and how they can fit so many incredible experiences into each day. Women leave saying how they’ve enjoyed more in a week than they have in a year, but still leave feeling fully rested and rejuvenated.
The trick is, when we slow down, we often get more done, because we are fully present in what we are doing.
A Bali retreat does indeed feel like an endless journey of breathtaking wellness rituals…
- Practising yoga to the sounds of nature around you
- Surrendering to a long blissful Balinese oil massage
- Soaking up the Bali sunshine by the pool with a fresh cold coconut in hand
- Relaxing in a fragrant flower bath with herbal tea and gentle music
- Feeling the energy of the ocean beneath you as you glide towards the shore on a surfboard
- Experiencing Balinese temples, rice fields, stunning beaches and even manta rays.
On a Bali retreat, it is also very special to witness the daily rituals of the Balinese people. They dedicate hours every single day to making beautiful offerings to the spirits and often have cause for celebration with an extensive holiday calendar. Experiencing the daily acts and seeing the hundreds of offerings of flowers on the ground everywhere you go is such a powerful reminder to be grateful for all we have.
With the opening of our brand new luxury women’s retreat sanctuary in Bali, we are adding even more opportunities for you to enjoy wellness rituals and special events. One of these is a beautiful sunset beach bonfire where guests enjoy a cacao ceremony, followed by delicious grazing boards and champagne as the sun dips below the horizon. We don’t want to give too many of these new experiences away just yet, but rest assured, there are more opportunities than ever before to bask in the magic of beautiful Bali.
Many guests leave their Bali retreat inspired by the idea of incorporating some new wellness rituals into their own daily lives at home. This is such a wonderful way to stay connected to all the positive emotions that the retreat journey awakens, and enables you to stay mindful, present and grateful for all things- big and small- in your daily life.
Here are some ways you can introduce ritual into your daily life and turn mundane actions into sacred reasons for celebration.
- Pour yourself a hot cup o tea or coffee and enjoy it outside or in your favourite room in the house
- Buy yourself a tarot card deck and take a few moments to pull a card each day- this can be fun and also insightful
- Take a bath! One of the easiest and loveliest wellness rituals you can do. Try adding flower petals, light a candle and put on some relaxing music.
- Be mindful when you moisturise your skin. Take your time and use a beautiful body lotion or oil. This is so simple yet can be a really lovely opportunity for self care and self love
- Find a mantra that really resonates with you or an inspiring quote and stick it up on your mirror. Each day, spend a few moments with that matra and feel how it uplifts your spirit
- When making a meal, slow down and be present. Be grateful for the ingredients that you are using and pour love and positivity into the food. Trust us, it will even taste better when you do this!
- Just in the same way that you cook mindfully, make each meal a wellness ritual. Sit down, remove all distractions and really savour your meal. This helps with digestion too.
- Turn your morning shower into a chance to think of a few things you are grateful for. The vibration of gratitude is the highest frequency that we can hold as humans
These are just a few ways that you can introduce wellness rituals into you life. While they are similar to wellness routines, making these rituals adds magic and meaning to them, making it more likely that you’ll make time for them.
