As you get ready for your Fusion Fitness retreat, we cover all you need to know about our InBody scan. From what it is and how it works to the transformative benefits we’ve seen on countless women’s fitness journeys.
BMI vs Body Composition: What is the InBody Scan?
Body mass index, or BMI, is often the standard test we take when trying assessing our health. But did you know that BMI tracking only provides a surface-level understanding of your health? BMI does not account for how much muscle or fat you have, whether you are carrying excess water weight or even the fitness goals you are working towards. These are all important factors to consider, especially when you’re on a fitness journey!
On the other hand, the InBody scan is a test that uses advanced BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) to provide a far more comprehensive snapshot of your body’s composition. It provides accurate insights of your muscle mass, body fat percentage, water retention, and more to give us a holistic look at your health and fitness. This allows us to make personalised suggestions on fitness routines, diet and other lifestyle changes to help you towards your goals.
The Benefits of an InBody Scan
Fitness is a personal journey. We all have our own goals – whether it is building muscle, losing fat or simply wanting to feel fitter – and our own motivations for getting there, from living longer and happier to keeping up with your growing children.
However, combining the numbers on a scale with a one-size-fits-all approach rarely produces the results we are looking for. For many women, it can even be disheartening when there isn’t any “tangible” evidence of our work. That is why the InBody Scan is an excellent tool that we use to give you a better look into your body and the best ways to get you feeling like the best version of yourself!
An Accurate Look Into Your Body Composition
To provide a more accurate understanding of your body composition, our InBody Scan test will analyse a number of different data points such as muscle mass, body fat percentage, water retention and more. Unlike BMI and other tools, InBody scanning can help you determine what aspects of your health and fitness routine can be improved.
Identifying Potential Health Risks
There are a lot of health risks related to weight and body fat. Chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease are common health risks that are associated with unhealthy body compositions. InBody scanning helps identify these risks early on, allowing you to take proactive steps to reduce the risk of future complications.
Personalised Recommendations & Guidance
With the data from an InBody Scan, our skilled trainers can design personalised training and nutrition regimens based on your specific requirements and goals. For example, if your aim is to gain strength and our scan shows that you have low muscle mass, our trainers may suggest various strength training routines to help you gain muscle and a high protein diet to support muscle growth.
Progress Tracking, Motivation & Accountability
We know how difficult it can be to maintain a consistent fitness routine. Whether we are not seeing the results we want or struggling to stay motivated, sticking to our fitness goals can feel like an uphill battle. InBody scanning is a great way to help track even the smallest changes. This data can be a great motivator to keep you committed to your fitness journey.

Prepping For Your Appointment
Now that you’ve booked your Bali fitness retreat, it’s time to prepare for your InBody Scanning session. While it can seem like a scary piece of equipment, the test is completely non-invasive and takes only a few minutes! However, to get the best results, it is important to prepare. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your InBody scan:
What To Wear
InBody scanning uses low currents to determine the composition of your body. That is why is it important to choose clothing that won’t interfere with the scan’s sensors. Athletic wear or tighter fitting clothing is the best choice. You will also be asked to remove your shoes and socks to ensure the sensors are in direct contact with your skin.
It is important to avoid pieces with metal, such as zippers and buttons. As well as any jewellery, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, as these can affect the scan’s accuracy.
Factors That Can Affect Results
There are also a number of factors that can potentially affect the accuracy of your scan results.
- Menstrual Cycle: For female participants, changes in hormones can impact water retention and body composition readings.
- Food: Before your scan, you will be asked to avoid food and fluid intake for at least three to four hours. This is to ensure that the food is properly digested and will not affect results.
- Hydration: Hydration levels can have an affect on the accuracy of body composition measurements. Dehydration can lead to low readings, while excess hydration may inflate readings. To ensure the most accurate results, it is best to maintain the same amount of hydration you would on a daily basis.
- Time of Day: Our body changes throughout the day. This happens because the impedance in your body can vary based on the time of day and the part of your body being measured. To maintain consistency in measurements, schedule your scan for the same time of day each time you get scanned.
- Exercise: It is important to avoid exercise before your scan as intense physical activity can affect fluid levels and overall body composition. You want your body in it’s typical, everyday state to ensure you get the best insights.
- Hot Shower & Sauna: Heat from saunas and showers can also affect hydration levels and body temperature during your scan.
