As I sat in the audience at the Luxury Hotel Awards in Bali, a wave of pride washed over me. Watching our incredible leadership team step up to accept three prestigious global awards—Best Wellness Retreat, Best Yoga Retreat, and Best Women’s Retreat—was a moment I will never forget. It felt surreal, a culmination of our hard work and dedication, and I relished every second of it.
I can hardly believe it was just sixteen years ago when I arrived in Bali with a mere $10,000 in my pocket and a dream. I had no idea what was to come, no inkling I would someday be seated in a grand room alongside over 2,000 hotel owners, celebrating the impact we’ve created as a brand. It was one of those classic “pinch me” moments that really brought home how far we’ve come.
Reflecting on our journey, it’s important to note that this success wouldn’t be possible without our amazing team. My husband and I made the conscious decision to step back and let our leadership team accept the awards. This choice embodies our belief in servant leadership—supporting from behind and empowering our team to shine. It’s so rewarding to watch them grow, take the reins, and radiate confidence as they accept these honors.
Having half of our leadership team composed of women is a significant milestone, especially in Indonesia, where the culture often leans male-dominated. We recognize the importance of representation, and we hope our presence in these senior roles serves as an inspiration for other Indonesian women to pursue their dreams and aspire to positions of leadership. There’s something powerful about seeing women take charge, and we’re committed to paving the way for more to do the same.
Our shared passion for wellness does so much more than just enrich the lives of women who come to stay with us. It goes beyond that—together, we’re creating a ripple effect that uplifts the communities we operate within. When women feel empowered and supported, they thrive, and that energy flows back into their families and neighborhoods.
