Solo female traveller? Solo travel isn’t what you think…

Have you ever caught yourself daydreaming about a solo getaway—just you, a suitcase and a whole week of nothing but relaxation—but then that little voice in your head starts whispering…

“What if I don’t fit in?”

“What if it’s awkward being alone?”

“What if I feel out of place?”

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. In fact, I get it too. Even though I travel often and love it, those same questions still pop up – Will I connect with others? Will people like me? It’s natural to wonder if you’ll feel like the odd one out. But here’s what I’ve learned: solo travel has a way of expanding your comfort zone, and with that, your whole life gets more exciting.

And here’s something most people don’t realise – on any given week at Escape Haven, between 70-80% of our guests are solo travellers. That means the majority of women arriving at our retreat are stepping into the exact same unknown. And do you know what happens by the end of the week? They’re hugging, swapping numbers and wondering why they ever worried in the first place.

The benefits of travelling solo

The beauty of solo travel – especially on a solo retreat – is that you get to show up as you. You’re not someone’s friend, partner, boss, or mom. You’re free from all those labels and expectations. It’s just you rediscovering what lights you up. That’s why I love travelling solo myself. Without anyone else to think about, you naturally get more from the experience. You’re not checking in to make sure someone else is okay or adjusting your schedule to fit someone else’s needs. Instead, you have the freedom to follow your own rhythm, explore what truly nourishes you and reconnect with who you are beneath all the roles you play back home.

Imagine this…

From the moment you step off the plane, your personal English-speaking driver is waiting to greet you with a warm smile, ready to take your bags and whisk you away to your sanctuary for the week. As soon as you step inside, you’re met with the scent of frangipani flowers, a fresh coconut placed gently in your hands, and a team who welcomes you like an old friend. You’re shown to your beautiful private room—a peaceful space that already feels like home.

At dinner, you sit down with a group of women—some mothers, some professionals, some recently retired and within minutes, you realise how easy the conversation flows, how familiar it all feels. By the next morning, you’re laughing over breakfast, sharing stories and booking spa treatments together like old friends.

That’s the magic of a retreat. You’re never really alone because you’re surrounded by women who get it—women who, just like you, needed a space to exhale, reset and be taken care of. And the best part? You don’t have to plan a thing. No stressing about where to eat, what to do, or how to fill your time. Everything is arranged for you, so all you have to do is show up and let go.

Solo travel doesn’t mean you’re on your own. It means giving yourself the gift of time, space and freedom. You’re not having to show up for anyone else, just yourself.

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is it. The first step is always the hardest, but once you take it, you’ll wonder why you ever hesitated.
