What I Learnt at the Global Wellness Summit: Longevity Needs Spirit, Not Just Science
I have just returned from the Global Wellness Summit in Dubai and I am still buzzing. Every year this event expands my thinking, but this year felt different. It was all focussed around Longevity.
It felt like the industry is finally catching up to what some of us have been speaking about and known for years.
One of the most powerful talks came from Anna Bjurstam of Six Senses. She shared a truth that gave me goose bumps.
There is no point lengthening the runway if we never take off.
In other words, there is no use adding years to our life if those years feel flat, disconnected or joyless. Extending lifespan is not the same as expanding life.

Longevity without spirit is just survival
For too long, the longevity conversation has been dominated by biology. Senescent cells. Lengthening your telomeres. Fasting protocols. Lab tests. Peptides. Cold plunges. Mitochondrial optimisation. All useful tools, but still only one part of the story.
Anna reminded us that if we want to extend life, we must also elevate what it means to live. You can be biologically younger on paper, but if your life lacks connection, joy, awe or purpose, then you are simply prolonging survival, not expanding vitality.
The science is finally confirming what the soul has always known.
Connection protects.
Purpose strengthens.
Awe changes physiology.
Belonging keeps us alive.
Joy is medicine.
My clear take out was that purpose or meaning is not an add-on. Rather, its essential for longevity and we must consider science with soul as we create wellness programmes and offerings.
Lunch with Dave Asprey
One of the other highlights was ending up sitting next to Dave Asprey for lunch. The man who practically invented biohacking.
What surprised me most was how much his message has evolved. Dave talked about how most people misdiagnose themselves. They think they have stress or mindset issues when what they actually have is an energy deficit or an underlying biological imbalance.
He said something that struck me deeply:
Better biology is the foundation. Better living is the outcome.
Longevity is not the goal. A meaningful, energised, connected life is the goal.
The machines, the labs, the peptides, the protocols are tools.
But the point of longevity is to feel more alive – to come into your aliveness.

Kristen Holmes from WHOOP: Recovery is the real performance advantage
One of my favourite sessions came from Kristen Holmes, Global Head of Performance and Principal Scientist at WHOOP. She leads the research behind millions of data points on high performers across the world.
Kristen shared something simple and profound.
The top performers in the world are not the ones pushing hardest. They are the ones recovering best.
Her research shows:
• Sleep quality predicts performance more than motivation.
• Morning light and stable routines regulate emotional resilience.
• Rituals that calm the nervous system raise HRV more than discipline.
• Connection and psychological safety are measurable performance enhancers.
• Recovery is not passive. It is a biological strategy.
Then she shared a study on elite golfers and what this could mean for us.
The 3 stroke advantage
WHOOP tracked 389 elite golfers across 500 tournaments over several years.
When they improved their sleep, their performance improved so significantly that it produced a 3 stroke advantage.
Three strokes is the difference between winning and losing.
Between being average and being extraordinary.
Then Kristen asked a question:
Now imagine what that three stroke advantage means for an everyday person.
It might mean clearer thinking at work = greater success.
More patience with your children = better relationships.
Feeling regulated instead of reactive = better self esteem.
Healing instead of pushing all the time.
Having energy all day instead of crashing at 2pm = how good would this be?
A three stroke advantage in real life looks like being a better parent, partner, leader and human.
This is exactly what we have seen at Escape Haven for sixteen years.
Women arrive depleted. They leave with better sleep, calmer nervous systems, restored energy and deeper connection. Long before the data existed, we were living these truths on retreat.

Why all of this matters for Mana Sanctuary
Mana is the natural evolution of everything Escape Haven has taught me.
At Escape Haven, I have watched women transform simply by having space to rest, reconnect and breathe again. It is not just the yoga or the massages or the ocean. It is the connection. The belonging. The moments of awe. The feeling of being held and deeply seen by others.
Mana Sanctuary takes that wisdom and merges it with next-generation recovery and longevity science. A gender inclusive, science backed, soul led sanctuary.
Yes, we will have advanced modalities, circadian aligned days, performance tracking and personalised Pathways. But just as important is what you feel.
Quiet mornings.
Connection.
Purpose.
Space.
Belonging.
Awe.
Renewal.
We built this knowing longevity is not about living longer. It is about living fully.
The future of wellness is beautifully human
This Summit made one thing clear.
The future of longevity blends science with soul.
Anna reminded us that meaning is the real fuel of a long, rich life.
Dave reminded us that biology is only the beginning.
Kristen reminded us that recovery, rhythm and emotional grounding are the real performance drivers.
Escape Haven has embodied this for sixteen years.
Mana Sanctuary will carry it into the next generation of longevity and recovery.
We can’t wait for you to experience it. Please contact us at Mana Sanctuary to find out more.
